Excess Catamarans: Sailing Into the Future. Innovation, Freedom, and Adventure

An update from the Cannes Yachting Festival.

The world of multihulls is full of new developments, and once again, Excess Catamarans is at the heart of it. At the Cannes Yachting Festival 2025, the brand showcased its range and their vision for the future — one built around innovation, accessibility, and the joy of being at sea. From hybrid propulsion to fresh ownership models and a new partnership, Excess is designing boats that are fun to sail and is working on ways of widening their availability.

A Brand on the Move: The Excess Spirit at Cannes

At this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, there was a real buzz around the Excess stand. With more an estimated 500 boats on the water by the end of 2025 and a growing tribe of owners, the brand has come of age since its launch in 2019. Excess is focused on sailor-focused designa and a belief that sailing should be fun, simple, and accessible.

The presentation in Cannes focused on their four brand three pillars: pleasure, innovation, community and savoir-faire. They are aiming to embed these in every project rolling out of the Excess office. Three key initiatives are pushing those values further.

Silence, Range, and a Sustainable Future

The Excess 11 Hybrid:

The big news from Excess is the arrival of the Excess 11 Hybrid, a bold step into the future. Outfitted with dual 10 kW pods, a 22 kVA generator, and a bank of 48V lithium batteries ( 4x 230A + 4x 230A ), the system delivers both eco-cruising and practical autonomy. At a comfortable 5.2 knots, the boat offers a quiet, emission-friendly ride — while still capable of bursts up to 7 knots if you need it.

The range is equally impressive: nearly 40 nm at eco-cruising pace and 15 nautical miles at higher speeds, and . For sailors, this means quiet harbour manoeuvres, emission-free sailing, and the peace of mind knowing a backup generator is there when needed. With a starting premium of €84,300 for the hybrid option, the Excess 11 Hybrid is competitive too. When you take into account the cost of the genset and the lithium battery upgrade, the whole pack comes in at around €50,000 extra (over and above the lithium battery and genset options).

Excess Share:

Sailing Without Owning, with Wiziboat

Excess is also tackling one of the biggest barriers to getting on the water: ownership. In partnership with Wiziboat, they’ve launched Excess Share, a flexible, app-based program that lets sailors step aboard a brand-new Excess catamaran without the responsibilities of ownership. Or a way of reducing bills on your new Excess.

With a few taps on the Wiziboat app, members can book well-maintained boats and set sail — with no maintenance or management fees, and fewer worries. The packages are smartly designed: two full-week credits per year plus four renewable day credits, with training and insurance included. Prices starting at €1,250 per month, it’s a practical way to widen access to their catamarans.

As Thibaut de Montvalon, Brand Director at Excess, explains: “We are convinced that the sea should be accessible to everyone, without giving up the pleasure of sailing. With Excess Share, a new generation of sailors can discover the Excess experience at their own pace.”

This is a statement of intent: opening the world of catamaran sailing to a broader community.

Excess Joins the Pacific Puddle Jump

And for those dreaming of the open ocean, Excess has struck a deal. The brand is now the exclusive partner of the  Pacific Puddle Jump, a 3,000-nautical-mile rally that has been attracting adventurers since 1997.

The rally’s ethos — freedom, mutual support, and conviviality — is a great match for the Excess team. Crews set off at their own pace, from their own ports, heading west across the Pacific toward the turquoise anchorages of French Polynesia.

Through the partnership, new Excess owners gain access to the “Ariimoana” package: expert-led webinars, rigging checks, personalized routing, at-sea technical support, Polynesian experiences, and more.

A New Chapter

Excess is a brand that refuses to stand still. They are innovating with hybrid technology, building accessibility with shared sailing, and building the adventure by teaming up with legendary rallies.

The team has the wind in their sails.
