Windelo Sport

Four Performance Catamarans from 51 to 63 Feet

Windelo builds its model in three versions: Adventure, Yachting and Sport. The first two share the same hull and rig and differ mainly in fit-out. The Sport version changes the design itself, with new bows, rig, sails and structure.

The Sport version has now grown from two boats to four: the 51, 55, 59 and 63 Sport. They are an exciting addition to a successful range and are attracting considerable interest from clients who are looking for even more performance from their yacht.

The 55 Sport at Cannes

The Windelo 55 Sport made its world premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival, held from 8 to 13 September 2026, on the brand’s stand in Port Canto. The boat on show was launched in 2026, and a second 55 Sport is already in production.

The Sport models are a great “performance-plus” option in a range known for basalt-fibre construction, electric-hybrid propulsion and the forward twin helm cockpit.

What Sets the Sport Apart

Longer hulls and sharper bows

The Sport hulls have a longer waterline and more aggressively inverted bows, raked at up to 17°. Windelo quotes a waterline gain of 33 cm. On the two smaller yachts, overall length grows by 30 cm: the 51 Sport measures 15.54 m against 15.24 m for the Windelo 50, and the 55 Sport 16.54 m against 16.24 m for the 54.

Waterline length sets the hull’s maximum speed potential, and the finer bow entry helps the hulls pass through waves with less pitching.

Carbon

The daggerboards have been reshaped and lengthened by 65 cm for more lift upwind. The balanced rudders are also redesigned and longer for sharper helm feel, and both boards and rudders are built in carbon fibre for lower weight and higher stiffness. The deeper boards increase maximum draft to 2.93 m on the 51 Sport and 2.95 m on the 55 Sport, compared with 2.32 m and 2.35 m on the standard boats. Minimum draft rises by about 20 cm, to 1.23 m and 1.25 m.

A taller carbon rig

The Sport rig uses a carbon mast extended by one metre with Kevlar shrouds, reducing weight in the upper sections by around 15% while adding sail area. Less weight aloft improves righting moment and reduces pitching.

At the bow, the aluminium forward beam and conventional bowsprit are replaced with a stiffer, lighter carbon crossbeam, 30 cm longer, which adds up to 20% more area to the downwind sails.

Performance sails and a more flexible headsail plan

The sails use 3D membrane construction with durable, high-performance materials inspired by offshore racing. Mainsail area has increased on both launched models: 98 m² on the 51 Sport against 92 m² on the Windelo 50, and 106 m² on the 55 Sport against 99 m² on the 54.

Downwind, gennaker area rises from 161 m² to 192 m² on the 51, and from 190 m² to 220 m² on the 55.

The headsail set-up also changes. The self-tacking solent is replaced by an overlapping genoa, with an optional removable forestay and staysail. The staysail option is useful offshore, giving a small, well-placed sail for heavy weather or close reaching.

Racing hardware and extra trim controls

All Sport versions get racing deck fittings and high-end blocks on Dyneema lashings. Additional controls include a mainsail clew adjuster along with barber haulers and inhaulers, giving finer control of sail shape and headsail sheeting angles.

Lighter structure and interior

The main structural bulkheads are carbon fibre. The interior uses lighter materials, with carbon helm wheels, and lighter joinery such as fabric doors. Compared with the 50 and 54, Windelo quotes a total weight saving of more than 500 kg. The published light displacements are 10.7 t for the 51 Sport against 11.2 t for the 50, and 12.3 t for the 55 Sport against 12.8 t for the 54.

A performance hull wrap gives the Sport boats their own identity.

Longer, Lighter and More Powerful

The Sport formula improves every key ratio. The 55 Sport carries 154 m² of upwind sail (main plus genoa) on 12.3 t, where the standard 54 carries 144 m² on 12.8 t. The 51 Sport carries 143 m² against 135 m² on the 50, while shedding half a tonne. Combined with the longer waterline and deeper boards, that gives higher average speeds and better pointing, while the layout, forward cockpit and electric-hybrid drive remain unchanged.

The New 59 Sport and 63 Sport

The two new models are evolved from the Windelo 58 and 62, the latest boats in the range. Both were drawn by naval architects Barreau & Neuman together with the Stellantis Design Studio.

The Windelo 58 measures 17.68 m with a 9.48 m beam, 18.0 t light displacement and a 129 m² mainsail, while the 62 measures 18.88 m, weighs 22.0 t and carries a 140 m² mainsail. Both use electric-hybrid propulsion rated at a minimum of 60 kW. Pricing is published: the 59 Sport starts from €2,600,000 ex VAT and the 63 Sport from €3,450,000 ex VAT.

There was a real “wow-factor” at the Windelo 55 Sport premiere in Cannes at the Yachting Festival. The team looked like they enjoyed the sail over from Canet-en-Roussillon and this range extension looks like its going to be a popular one with clients going forward.
