Max Cruise Marine 45SC
The performance cruising segment has experienced explosive growth over the last few years with manufacturers from France, South Africa, the UK, Australia and other countries meeting the demand for long distance cruisers that can achieve higher average daily miles. But prices have risen have too. There is plenty of choice in the market if you have deeper pockets.
But what if you are looking for a more affordable option that will still sail in a light breeze and munch the miles? That’s where Max Cruise Marine fits in with their range of catamarans that they market with the slogan :”Proven Performance, Unmatched Value”.
Let’s take a look at their smallest yacht, the Max 45SC, which is built in their Vietnamese yard along with her larger sisters, the 48SC and 55SC.
The Max 45SC is built using advanced resin-infused technology, and the result is a lightweight, durable boat with above average performance. Each model is built with CNC precision-cut materials, guaranteeing a seamless fit and finish.
These are semi-custom boats – choose from a range of layouts and finishes to suit your style.
There are also options for solar power and electric propulsion for an eco-friendly set-up and a variety of helm, propulsion, and sail plan options. So they offer a mid-raised helm as standard, for example but also offer twin aft helms. You can opt for daggerboards or fixed keels, all at a competitive price point.
The 45SC used to be the 44SC – Max Cruise Marine lengthened the design following demand for greater load-carrying capacity.
With a hull length to beam ratio of 12.2:1, the 45SC has been designed to start sailing in light winds. The beam width at the waterline is 1.05m and the maximum displacement is 9.3 tonnes.

You can set the boat up with a genoa or a self-tacking jib. She comes with a 66m² square top mainsail that gives you 103m² of upwind sail area with the genoa. That gives you a SA/D ratio of around 25 which is one of the reasons that she will get sailing quickly.
You can also fly a Code 0 or a gennaker off the bowsprit of course.
The MAX 45SC has a spacious & functional layout that has been designed for long-distance cruising with comfortable cabins, ample storage, and a spacious salon.
This is a catamarans that moves well through the water, so there is not as much space down below in the hulls as some of her competition, but it is still a very comfortable yacht. Up top, where you will be spending most of your time, the living room is very generous with a big social dining area, a forward facing nav station and a galley with plenty of prep space that is safe in a seaway.
In the owner’s version, there is a big shower and head forward and you can configure the guest hull forward as a Queen Cabin, an office/workspace or a combination of the two.
The aft cockpit feels safe with its outdoor dining area protected under the bimini. You are connected to the helm. It’s an open design connecting the saloon aft to the cockpit.
One of the selling points of the MAX 45SC is the options available to customise the yacht. So you can configure this catamaran with the standard raised mid-helm, or go for swing aft helms. She can be set up with mini keels or daggerboards. Shaft drive is recommended (the engines are accessed via the aft berths), but they will also install sail drives.
The 45SC standard set up is 2x 30HP Inboard diesels (shaft drive) but there are also options for hybrid-electric systems (Beta Marine Hybrid: parallel-hybrid).
The Max Cruise Marine 45SC is an attractive proposition: an affordable performance sailing catamaran with customisable features, and a commitment to quality and durability.
