Jai Tooley
Jai Tooley is an Australian sailor and YouTuber who recently began a new chapter in his sailing career after significant time spent working with other prominent sailing teams.
This is a great channel if you like your classic cats!
Background
Jai spent around eight months as crew on Sailing La Vagabonde. During that time, he sailed through various regions including Japan, the Mariana Islands, Guam and Palau (some good diving on those episodes).
Before his time with the La Vagabondes, he was known for his previous boat, Rummy (a Crowther Spindrift catamaran), which he owned for several years before selling it to friends. He has also spent time in China working with HH Catamarans.
His Newest Boat is “Bagatelle”
Model: 46ft Crowther catamaran, built in 1980
Current Status: After buying the boat, he is fixing her up in a Brisbane boatyard, including servicing the sail drives and applying new anti-foul paint.
Future Plans: He intends to get the boat back into racing, travel overseas, and explore the Coral Sea.
YouTube Channel Content
His channel focuses on the “hands-on” aspect of boat ownership and the cruising lifestyle. Following a year-long hiatus from posting, example of his content:
- DIY Boat Maintenance: Detailed footage of mechanical repairs (like seal drive servicing) and hull maintenance
- Cruising Life: Transitioning from professional crew back to boat owner, including moving his belongings from storage onto the new catamaran
- Collaborations: Often features other sailors and friends, such as Xavier Doerr, who helped with the launch of Bagatelle
The channel is a “raw” and practical look at sailing, with highlights of his “Rummy’s recipe book” for off-grid cooking!
One to watch we think.
