The Tortue 147 at the International Multihull Show

One of the most intesting designs that we saw at the International Multihull Show this year was the Tortue 147, the first model from Cataruga.

This catamaran was one of the busiest at the show. It redefines how you think of modern cruising catamaran design.

Is it for everyone? No, but I am sure this team will carve out a very interesting segment in the market. Slow down and enjoy the planet!

Conceived by Jean Sommereux and designed by designer Jean-Michel Kalfon, the yacht is built in Tunisia, a 14.7m aluminium multihull follows a philosophy of enjoying life with your family at your own pace.

Rather than pursuing speed, the Tortue 147 invites you to embrace a more deliberate and connected voyage.

The ‘Slow Life’

The name “Tortue” (“turtle” in French) captures the vessel’s ethos: prioritising comfort, space, safety, enjoyment at anchor and self-sufficiency over velocity.

The Tortue 147 is a “floating home,” designed for extended, off-grid exploration. Its robust aluminum hull is durable, safe and resistant to impacts.

Designed for Stability and Comfort

There is some thoughtful design and engineering in this yacht.

Bulbous Bows reduce pitching and enhance longitudinal stability.

Sterns designed for efficient water flow and improved handling.

Ballast Tanks: Two 1,200-liter tanks contribute to balance and seaworthiness.

Fixed Keels and Rudder Skegs mean you can beach the boat in shallow waters while protecting your props.

Interiors

This yacht has expansive living spaces, including a saloon with panoramic views, a suspended chart table seat, and a diamond-shaped floor window. The team have used of paulownia wood—a lightweight, fast-growing, and sustainable material—to warmth to the interiors.

Everything has been designed to make you forget you’re on board a boat. From the very first steps, you enter a light-filled space that invites you to slow down.

The yacht has been designed to feel like home. A house open to the horizon, where you can cook, read, gather, or get some “me-time”

Sustainable

Cataruga boasts 5 kW of solar panels which can generate up to generate over 20 kWh daily, exceeding onboard electrical needs.
Lithium Batteries: A 65 kWh storage capacity ensures consistent power supply.

Hybrid Propulsion: two 57 HP diesel engines AND two 10 kW electric motors that give an all-electric range of 12 nautical miles at 6 knots.
