C-Cat 65
Performance with Purpose
In the increasingly crowded field of 60+ foot performance catamarans, the C-Cat 65 by Comar Yachts takes a deliberate approach. Instead of chasing performance extremes, it blends clever engineering with Italian craftsmanship, producing a boat that feels confident at sea, is fast and luxurious at anchor.
This yacht is shaped by over fifty years of Comar’s boatbuilding heritage, backed by designers Enrico Contreas and Marco Amadio, and refined with structural input from Naval Design’s FEM and CFD specialists. More than 40,000 hours of skilled labor and 4,500 hours of design went into it.
Built Light, Built Strong
The C-Cat 65 weighs in at just 18.5 tons light displacement — lean for a 21-meter cat. The way it gets there is a story of putting carbon where it counts:
- Deck, crossbeam, bowsprit, bulkheads: all carbon, boosting stiffness and trimming weight aloft.
- Daggerboards (3.46 m draft down): carbon, strong, and efficient, delivering tight upwind angles.
- Pre-preg carbon mast: lightweight, strong, aerodynamically precise. Built by Comar for 100% control of the process.
Hull shells: carbon–glass composite, offering a balance of durability and weight savings.
The whole structure is infused in epoxy with a Corecell sandwich core. Even the furniture is bonded and tabbed into place, adding to the rigidity rather than just being interior décor.
The result is a platform that feels stiff and responsive — gusts translate into smooth acceleration rather than flex and delay.
Living Afloat
For all the structural cleverness, the C-Cat 65 is a yacht designed for extended passages and comfortable living.
- Owner’s Suite Aft: giving direct cockpit access and a calmer ride in seaway.
- Main Saloon: Opens wide with a three-panel sliding door, blending indoor and outdoor living.
- Galley: Fully equipped for long cruising, with all the mod cons like the dishwasher and wine cooler.
- Custom interiors: hand-built by Comar’s carpenters, with the layout tailored to the owner — from three cabins to larger family-friendly setups with four.
The styling is understated Italian luxury with a beautiful finish. Take the reverse-rake coachroof windows: they cut glare and improve sightlines at sea. It’s functional and it looks good.
On Deck and Under Sail
One of the pleasures of a big cat is the helm — and here Comar has invested in visibility and control. The carbon helm stations offer great visibility of the sails with push button controls for the major operations. Handling a 239 m² upwind sail plan (mainsail and genoa) is serious business, but the setup makes it practical even for a small crew. The helm stations are exposed, but there is another spot forward in the saloon if the weather closes in.
Each bow has watertight crash boxes and on the energy front, integrated solar panels on the hard top provide renewable autonomy, helping keep systems running quietly at anchor.
Pros
What makes the C-Cat 65 stand out is balance.
- Performance: light, stiff, and quick in light air; genuinely upwind capable.
- Safety: structural redundancy, careful engineering, and crash boxes.
- Comfort: real luxury, but custom and purposeful rather than mass-produced.
- Craftsmanship: Italian woodwork and finishing with attention to detail.
On the Flip Side
Of course, there are trade-offs:
- Carbon construction means higher costs to build and repair, and not every yard can service it.
- Systems-heavy (dozens of powered winches, custom electrics) means you’ll want a clear maintenance plan and spares.
- Payload is decent but not unlimited — load it with too much and you’ll blunt the performance you paid for.
Summary
The C-Cat 65 is a boat for sailors who want the thrill of sailing fast coupled with luxury at anchor – it’s built for owners who appreciate engineering clarity, hand-built quality, and custom comfort.
If you dream of surfing across oceans at pace, then sliding open the saloon doors to enjoy dinner, this cat delivers both sides of the equation. You will need deep pockets though.
