Advanced Yachts AC72

Advanced Yachts

Advanced Yachts is an Italian yacht builder rooted in craftsmanship, high-performance engineering and bespoke design. Every Advanced Yacht is built in Italy, by artisans and small specialised firms who embody the culture, tradition and artistry of true naval ‘know-how’.”

This is a company of sailors, driven by passion who have been developing the brand or over 40 years.
These Italian yachts are full of design detail and built using advanced composite materials. They use vacuum-infused epoxy sandwich panels, fibreglass and carbon reinforcements, and full carbon construction on some models.

These are high-end semi-custom sailing yachts which balance performance, luxury and personalised build.

And they have now launched the first multihull in their range: the AC72.

The AC72: a Special Yachts.

The 22m AC72 from Advanced Yachts marks a significant step for the yard: their first maxi-catamaran.

  • Size and proportions: The AC72 has a length of 22 metres overall, with a maximum beam of 10 m. The wide beam, power to weight ratio and 1m bridge-deck clearance promises serious sailing capability alongside spacious living.
  • Construction and materials: The hulls and superstructure are built using advanced composites; Advanced Yachts use vacuum-infused sandwich construction and carbon reinforcements.
  • Performance-led design: The AC72 features variable-draft centreboards (pivoting) that allow the draft to be as shallow as 1.50 m when boards up, and as deep as 4.00 m when deployed. This allows both access to shallow anchorages and good upwind performance.
  • Indoor-outdoor living emphasis: One of the key design features is what they call the “Advanced Front Door” option – essentially a gullwing door that links the saloon with the forward cockpit and opens up the space. The catamaran is expansive, the yachting equivalent of a luxury sport SUV.
  • Eco / hybrid propulsion options: The AC72 has an “Eco Propulsion” option, in partnership with alternative energy marine engineering, signalling the yard’s commitment to sustainability trends.
  • Customization and luxury: As with all Advanced Yachts builds, the AC72 offers multiple layout and finishing options.
These features make the AC72 both a solid performance cruiser and a luxurious live-aboard multihull.

Specs at a glance

Here is a practical spec summary of the AC72:

  • Length Overall (LOA): 22 m
  • Waterline Length: 21.75 m
  • Maximum Beam: 10 m
  • Bridgedeck Clearance: ~1.00 m
  • Draft: 1.50 m (boards up) / 4.00 m (boards down)
  • Displacement (light): ~35.5 tonnes
  • Engines: 2 × Yanmar 4LV 150 hp
  • Fuel capacity: 1,400 litres
  • Water capacity: 1,000 litres

These numbers place the AC72 firmly in the “luxury performance catamaran” segment rather than a minimalist racing yacht.

Who are the rivals?

  • Gunboat (France), arguable the most valuable catamaran brand out there. Known for high-performance carbon catamarans that blend racing heritage with cruising comfort. Their Gunboat 80 (LOA :23.95 m, beam 10.25 m, displacement – 26-36 tonnes) is a benchmark.
The new Fusion line (Fusion 80) launched in 2025 is a Gran Turismo Catamaran that is aiming to dominate this market.
  • HH Catamarans – Their flagship HH88 (LOA 26.82 m, beam 11.10 m, displacement 45-60 tonnes) is a larger yacht, but in the same performance-luxury multihull category. This builder also operates in this market.

Advanced Yachts is entering a competitive market. The AC72stes out its stall with its Italian craftsmanship, tailor-made interior by e.g. Cassetta Yacht Design, and the variable-draft.

Summary

The AC72 from Advanced Yachts bridges the gap between performance multihull and luxury cruising yacht. With advanced construction, intelligent design (variable draft, indoor/outdoor concept), and customisation by Cassetta for the interior, it’s a compelling offering in a competitive sector.
