Vaan Yachts, based in the Netherlands, is carving a successful niche for themselves manufacturing high-end, eco-friendly catamarans with a focus on achieving a high level of sustainability and reducing their carbon footprint. They stand out for their elegant interiors inspired by luxurious hotel suites.
Vaan Catamarans are built to sail with aft helms and a low boom. A big part of their ethos is the use of sustainable materials. So the boats are made from recycled aluminium and they use FSC-certified cork decking and recycled fabrics. And the yacht is all-electric too.
The R5 is the second model to launch from the yard after the R4. This 49-footer has an 80 m2 mainsail and a 45 m2 self-tacking jib with options to fly a Code 0 or Gennaker off the bowsprit.
The R5 comes in two designs: the open cockpit and the closed cockpit live-aboard model, the R5-LA. Both have been designed for extended blue water cruising or a family live-aboard
On the R5-LA, the sliding door between the saloon and cockpit is further aft, creating a larger interior saloon (30m2) that allows for different layout options.
Down below, the Vaan R5 has an owner’s hull on the port side with a big bathroom with a spacious shower, head and plenty of drawers and shelves for storage. The interior design is elegant and minimalist, and the designers have thought hard about how to deliver a warm and cosy environment on cooler days and a cool, relaxed space in warmer climates. There are walk-in closets in both hulls.
There is an optional seating area forward where you can enjoy a sundowner. The table can be raised to provide seating for 3-4 people or lowered to make it into a large sun-lounger.
Options Starboard
You can configure the starboard hull as a second master suite with a walk-in closet and full bathroom like the Owner’s side. Or you can configure with two cabins with a Mid-Bathroom or two smaller Double-Mid Bathrooms.
