Port Ginesta

A large, modern marina on the Costa de Garraf in Catalonia, Spain, located in Les Botigues de Sitges, between the Garraf Natural Park and Castelldefels Playa.

It is around 20–25 km southwest of Barcelona and about 10-15 km (around 15-20 minutes by car) from Barcelona–El Prat Airport, making it one of the most convenient big marinas near the city. It opened in 1986 and expanded in 2007, and now offers around 1,200–1,440 berths for vessels up to 24–30 m, with a dedicated space for multihulls and depths of about 2 – 4.5 m, and a full range of services including a large boatyard (travelift up to 75 t), fuel, technical workshops, restaurants, shops, sailing schools, and Blue Flag environmental recognition.

It sits at the foot of the protected Garraf massif with direct access to Cala Ginesta beach, ideal as a base for cruising the Catalan coast, heading south to the Ebro Delta, the Balearics, or exploring Barcelona and Sitges.

Gecko Home

Port Ginesta was the home port of Gecko, our Nautitech 40 Open, and it is situated 25 km south-west of Barcelona and 15km from Barcelona airport near Garraf Natural Park of the Garraf Massif. They are developing this marina into a multihull specialist.

The closest town is Castelldefels, and it sits near the beach (Platja de Castelldefels) where you’ll find plenty of restaurants, hotels and apartments. Do you like steak? Try Ushuaia in Castefa (Castelldefels) Playa.

There are some great restaurants in the port too, like Santos, El Capita, Django, Palo Seco, AHuevo and more.
On the western side of the port, there is a beach where you’ll spot surfers in the winter months (on moderate sized Med waves, it has to be said) and you can hike up to Garraf Park from the end of the marina.

Pros and Cons

Pros

Close to Barcelona
Good choice of restaurants. Try Marisquería Santos, but be sure to book, best on weekdays.
Big, so you are likely to find a berth
They are focusing on the catamaran market
The dry dock is extensive and was recently enlarged. They have 2 lifts, one specifically for catamarans
There’s a decent xiringuito (beach bar) and beach right at the end. Learn to surf in the winter.
Hike up the hill at the back and you are quickly into the Garraf Park.

Cons

It’s a commercial port, so there is less of a community feel. It feels like they are focused on the revenue side of things.
Although its still cheaper than, say, the Costa Brava, and certainly the Balearics the prices seem to be going up quickly.
They are not strong on the basics (water supply can be intermittent, basic shower blocks, broken gate locks and so on).
The port is a long way from any supermarkets (Sorli Discau is the closest). There is a store in the port for essentials though.

Restaurants in Port Ginesta

Port Ginesta has a decent selection of spots right by the marina, ranging from healthy breakfasts and street food to seafood, fusion, Basque-inspired dishes, budget classics, and Italian.

Here are seven places worth a try (based on recent local food tips):

A Huevo – Opens nearly every day of the year (closed only 1 January) with continuous service from 8 a.m. Healthy breakfasts and generous brunches, plus an on-site gym/CrossFit area. Great for starting the day overlooking the port.
Django House – Street-food style spot known for big, filling plates like burgers and loaded nachos. Open Tuesday-Sunday; reliable and satisfying after four years in the marina.
Marisquería Santos – Upscale seafood specialist. Highlights include fresh percebes (goose barnacles), oysters, and premium crab (pinto, around €50/kg depending on the day). Ideal for a maritime treat.
El Baobab Restobar – Fun Italo-Senegalese fusion. Don’t miss their signature refreshing drink, the bizab.
Abrasaberri – Hearty, flavour-packed cuisine with standouts like txuletón (thick steak), truffled eggs with potatoes and carabinero prawn, mató cheese flan, and panchineta.
Frankfurt Dimas Port Ginesta – Affordable and generous. The serranito sandwich is a local favourite – good value and very filling.
Cuo Redi Napoli – Recently opened Italian restaurant. Try the Siciliana pizza with sausage and burrata or the spaghetti with prawn carpaccio. Pizzas typically around €14.
